Water-based Static Dissipative Paint

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

TBA Electro Conductive Products (ECP) has launched a new water-based static dissipative paint that is ideal for protecting materials that are susceptible to damage by solvents such as expanded polystyrene, high impact polystyrene sheets (HIPS) and polycarbonate.

ECP 529 is a single pack water-based acrylic static dissipative paint that will adhere to a variety of substrates and is suitable for use in electronics assembly applications and Atex type hazardous environments.

Specifications include static decay of <2s, dry film thickness (DFT) of 30 m and surface resistivity of 108 /sq. Paint colour is light grey.

TBA’s ECP 529 extends the company’s comprehensive range of electrically conductive coatings for static protection and EMI shielding applications. The ECP 500 series features four coatings for EMI shielding applications, two paints for floor coverings and 11 static dissipative coatings. Compatible with most plastics and metal substrates, the paints meet the requirements of BS IEC 61340-5-1:2001 (Basic Specification: Protection of electrostatic sensitive devices) and are suitable for use in Atex hazardous environments.

TBA ECP’s extensive range of static control products includes flooring, packaging and storage systems, grounding products, work surfaces and workstations, instrumentation, coatings and complementary services such as quality audits. The company is capable of delivering floor-to-ceiling static control solutions encompassing everything required in ESD protection areas. All products supplied by TBA ECP comply with RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC.

TBA Electro Conductive Products is a specialist manufacturer of high quality electro static protection (ESP) and electro magnetic interference (EMI) shielding products.

Designed to meet the requirements of section 5.2.4 of BS IEC 61340-5-1:2001, ECP 1470 series chairs are constructed from steel or conductive materials to provide continuous dissipation to earth. All cosmetic plastic components are removed to minimise static generation and facilitate cleaning.

Suitable for severe contract use, the chairs feature adjustable and reclining backrests (full vertical and horizontal adjustment), gas lift, castors or glides and a footring.

Chairs can be supplied with various coverings encompassing fabrics and vinyls for low and low/medium hazard operations and severe contract use. Available in blue or slate grey, ECP 1470 series chairs are backed with a full two-year guarantee. A wide variety of spare parts for the chairs is also available from TBA ECP.

Innovative Conductive Plastic Compounds In Polycond Project

Monday, June 1st, 2009

TBA Electro Conductive Products (ECP) is developing innovative conductive plastic compounds within the Pan-European PolyCond project that is aimed at creating eco-friendly, cost-effective and high added value conductive plastic composites.

PolyCond is a transnational project, being part financed by the European Commission (EC) under the sixth framework programme as an Integrated Project (IPSME scheme - project number IP 515835-2). The project is designed to address the needs of European plastics converters, a traditionally less research-intensive industry mainly composed of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs)

Commenting on the project, David Hurst, TBA ECP’s general manager said, “We are very pleased to be a part of PolyCond, a project that complements the aims of TBA ECP and will enable us to contribute our many years of experience in producing conductive plastics for EMI/RFI shielding and static control. We will also benefit from access to the results of PolyCond’s research output.”

PolyCond’s approach aims to deliver plastic components with embedded EMI shielding functionality, weight reduction of at least 60%, total cost reduction of shielding components approaching 90% and reduction of production time by 80%, thus improving productivity.

The main challenges for the project are to enhance the conductivity and extend the processing window of existing melt processable ICPs (Inherently Conductive Polymers) and to improve the compatibility and dispersion of conductive nanofillers in complex matrices.

PolyCond will benefit plastics processors in the EU by developing new technologies and providing solutions to key long-term problems. The multidisciplinary and integrated approach includes technology transfer with training activities, thereby mobilising EU and regional funding.
